Three fugitive terrorists who escaped Kamiti Maximum Prison were Thursday afternoon captured in a remote village in Kitui.
Musharaf Abdallah Akhulunga alias Shukri, Mohamed Ali Abikar and Joseph Juma Odhiambo alias Yusuf were arrested by detectives in Mwingi East as they approached Ukasi.
The suspects were nabbed after detectives received a tip-off from locals and moved swiftly to arrest the trio.
The trio have been on the run after a controversial escape from Kamiti which involved dislodging a brick on the wall of their cell.
They then used blankets, strings and broomsticks to create makeshift ropes that they used to scale two high walls around the most guarded correctional facility.
The escape was linked to the rot in prison’s governance which saw commissioner general of prison services Wycliffe Ogalo getting fired by president Uhuru Kenyatta
