President of Comedy in Africa Eric Omondi has blasted Kenyan artists for being ‘redundant’, ‘boring’, and ‘predictable’.
Eric Omondi while speaking to Jalang’o on Bonga na Jalas claimed that the Kenyan entertainment industry is asleep and creatives are being disrespected.
He went ahead and penned down a long statement on Instagram of how the industry is run with him being in the forefront of trying to revive it.
“! We have lost our Glory. We have become a Cemetry!!! It is utter DISGRACE that our musicians have become mere Curtain raisers for international acts. We have become clowns in our own land. Every weekend there is a group of 3 or 4 foreign artists in this City Nairobi. GENGETONE is DEAD and BURIED,” he said.
This prompted legendary Genge artist Jua Cali to react saying that the world is now competitive and things have changed.
“Wasanii wanafanya job fiti, macomedian stay at your lanes, what you are doing is drama not comedy, real comedy is two hours straight,” he said
Femi One joined in the attacks saying that many comedians tried music and failed terribly, and no one should come for their neck.
“Well said !! Kila mtu akae kwa lane yake …some comedians and presenters day in day out love belittling and disrespectfing KE artists sana and at one point some of them tried to be artistes/musicians and failed terribly at it !!! Heshima idumu manze,” she said.
Eric Omondi clapped back at Femi One for riding the wave of ‘Utawezana’ hitsong 2 years later and that she is not talented.
